In selecting the perfect engagement ring for your love, aside from the cost and the size of stone, an essential consideration is the form of the jewel as well. The pear shape diamond ring may not be a traditional choice but any engagement rings that claim love are truly fit for the lady you love.

The pear diamond ring is also recognized as the teardrop shape. It is really a cross between the oblong and marquise shape of stone. You may have observed this type of engagement ring as well-known cuts for earrings and chains but lately this type of shape is creating its way on engagement rings as well.

Unidentified to many, the pear shape diamond ring or teardrop diamond is cut and improved upon by a Flemish in the name of Lodweyk Van Berquem as early as the 1400's. Even though this diamond ring did not obtain much reputation because gemologist and jewelers feel the design was a waste of gemstone.

Since this gemstone is cut in a way that one end is circular and elongated and the other tip is directed, so most part of the jewel is cut away.

Luckily with the development in technology, various machines and methods for cutting the gemstone is invented so not much of the gemstone is wasted. The pear diamond engagement ring would be ideal as a solitaire but you can have it designed set and designed with other stones or valuable gems to highlight the diamond itself.

The most questionable pear diamond ring would most likely be the one actor Richard Burton gave to his lady love Elizabeth Taylor. It was a 69.42 carat pear diamond. Ultimately it was sold in 1979 for three million dollars $3M that assisted build a hospital in Botswana.
